"Paranoid Park" by Gus Van Sant

Paranoid Park _08, originally uploaded by arh_tek .

In "Paranoid Park" Van Sant focuses on the lives of teenagers through the figure of a skater-Alex-that in a completely unintentional causes the death of a watchman of the railway during a stunt. From this tragic event does not follow a narrative development of the film but the psychological character chooses not to tell anyone of what happened. The beauty of the film is the adoption of a simple script, where more than the dialogue or the strong characterizations of the characters, are awarded to the small gestures and simple conversation between young people and their emotional reactions (the shower scene is one of Alex of the best moments of the film). From here, two important decisions: the to find the players through myspace and that of a director who is conspicuous by the ability to not "impose" but "to listen" situations in which you will find the boys in their daily lives, sometimes taking views from almost hidden; detachment of the director allows it to enter without filters in a world where grown-ups are excluded, represented by the place to go skate called Paranoid Park, and thus be able to appreciate the emotions and frailties.
Notable scenes footage super8 skate with music by Ethan Rose and photography by Christopher Doyle (already in "2046 and" In the Mood for Love "by Kar-Wai). ***½/ 4 by Phil
